We made all kinds of plans for our retirement; knew exactly what we wanted to do with our "golden years". God laughed and gave us a one-year-old, and I officially became her mother two days before my fifty-second birthday. I've loved her since a few seconds after I found out she existed. I wouldn't have my life any other way.
We've been through so much. Getting through the adoption process deserves a book of it's own, but it's not what I want to concentrate on. Almost losing my husband less than a month after the adoption finalized was frightening, but that's not what I want to concentrate on. In the four years since, we've had our struggles, frights, tears and sometimes anger, but that's also not what I want to concentrate on.
I will tell you these stories, so you know who we are and how we got here from there. Along with the story telling I want to concentrate on the love, the kindness, and the laughter, so much laughter. I want to tell you about my lovely, smart aleck, attached at my hip daughter.
An added reason for this blog is that I know I'm not the only person out here half a century older than their youngest child. It does come with it's own challenges and worries. Maybe we can help each other with some of those.
